Why James Bruce?
Born and raised in Portland, James has deep roots in our community. He graduated from Lincoln High School and with honors from the University of Oregon for both undergraduate and law school. James understands the dynamic intersection between your business and your family, and strives to advise his clients in difficult times. When there are questions about your family or your business, you want the correct answer the first time. James is passionate about helping others in our community and ending youth homelessness in Oregon. James is one of the founders of the largest charity beer auction in the world, Brews for New Avenues, an event he has run since 2011 that raises money to support the mission of New Avenues for Youth.
Our Team
Alina Mohr
Alina joined the Law Office of James Bruce in 2021. She is excited to be part of the team and brings time management, organizational skills, attention to detail, international experience and a positive mindset.
Alina was born in Romania and moved to the US in 2011. She is a 2005 graduate of the University of West, Department of Economics in Timisoara, Romania, and in 2012 completed a bookkeeping program from New York University, School of Continuing and Professional Studies, Division of Programs in Business.
With experience in arts administration and an interest in community, human rights and family support, Alina shares common values with the rest of the team. She enjoys photography and has two young kids.
Jan M. Walstead
When entering the law office, you will likely be greeted by the warm smile of Jan M. Walstead. She began as part-time clerical support to aid in organization and took on the receptionist tasks because she a people person. A steady growth in the law office's client base offered the opportunity to work with the firm full-time. Putting her previous experience and attention to detail to use, she facilitates legal document drafting and legal research as additional responsibilities. During her nearly 10 years with the firm, Jan's title has changed a few times but currently she is a legal assistant to James Bruce, office administrator and coordinator of the out-of-state corporate clients.
With over 20 years of experience in the civil process serving industry and over 30 years of managerial/administrative experience, she keeps the office running smoothly and ensures that every client or visitor is treated with respect. Her extensive background in public speaking and her training of others helps her to defuse emotional or dissatisfied clients, as well as offering compassion to those clients who have recently lost a loved one. She shares her plentiful resources and networking with anyone who asks.

Jeremy Herrig
An analytical, research-focused attorney with 14+ years experience serving the interests of local, regional, national, and international clients across a wide range of industries. Before starting his own law practice, he worked for KPMG in International Corporate Services and Honkamp PC in the Tax Department.
Originally from Iowa, he graduated from Northwestern University in 2002 with a double major in economics and communications. He received his J.D. from the University of Oregon School of Law in 2006, where he focused on business, intellectual property, and estate planning law and was a Co-Chair of the Law and Entrepreneurship Student Association.
He joined the New Avenues for Youth Ambassador Board in 2011 and co-founded Brews for New Avenues, an internationally renowned rare craft beer event and auction benefiting homeless, at-risk, and foster youth in the Portland area, raising over $1.9 million to date.
In his free time, Jeremy is an expert skier, live music fan, foodie, and beer geek.
